My name is Julio C. Ramírez and I'm the Race Director for the
Fayetteville Annual Cinco de Mayo 10K and other races in the area. I
directed the 400 Mile Foot-March in
memory of 9-11 conducted in the island of Puerto Rico in 2002, which it
was home of the first
Cinco de Mayo 10K. I am native from
Linares, Nuevo Leon Mexico and after moving to the USA I came to the famous windy city of Chicago Ill.
My goal is to run
these events annually. With your help and contribution we can make
it happen "SI SE PUEDE".
In memory of my good friend that passed away in
October of 2005, We decided to change the name of the race. In
memory of him, We now call it "The John E. Norman Cinco de Mayo 10K". John
has contributed time and effort to this event, every year his family
supports all of our running events and thanks to them we are where we are
now. We will keep this name in memory and every year we will donate
20% of the proceeds to his family. Thanks John, I know you out there
watching us. Our event is becoming very popular every year and we hope to
become the best 10K in
North Carolina. In the past, the race has been represented by at least 5
states other than North Carolina: Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, Alabama,
Florida and the big city of Boston... For those of you who made the trip to beautiful
central North Carolina, please come back.
The Cinco de Mayo 10K originated as a Fund Raiser in Puerto Rico for
our soccer team Dorados de Ceiba. The year was 2000.
A little bit of history: The Cinco de Mayo 10K is the
first race ever in The Historic Downtown Fayetteville, NC. We were the first
race in Fayetteville that used Championchip. Thanks MIKE.
If your
organization has any athletes that are potential runners and would be
interested in participating in our event, please let us know. Every
year we look for new route. Keep on eye for the race to end in our
brand new Festival Park in 2006. cincodemayo10k@aol.com
